We spent 48 brilliant hours in San Francisco, my first time there. We were in downtown SF proper, I know I know that Oakland is just as hip and I know I know that Napa Valley is a few hours away. I need to go back and see these other places, I’d love to spend a weekend just hiking around the Redwoods.
San Fran is beautiful and complicated, everyone says that it’s changed so much, I wish I could have explored it 5 years ago to compare. We stayed in the Mission and it was Pride weekend, so there were a lot of interesting folks out and about. My favourite spot was this urban garden we found near the Tenderloin. There was a little sign on the street and an older woman taking donations in a narrow alleyway. Through the alley there was a door that opened up to a pretty magical expansive sculpture garden. The gent who owned and maintained the garden was lovely, introduced us to his 29 year old parrot, Simon and gave us some Monkey Paw flower nectar and sent us on our way.
