Well this place certainly lived up to the hype.
I suggest staying in an Air BNB even more than usual because so much of Portland’s magic is found in the residential neighbourhoods. There is no way I would have found Alberta Arts if we didn’t stay in that area, and it’s one of many pockets of bars, galleries and vintage stores. If you find yourself there, have a drink on the patio of Bye and Bye or The Hilt.
If you want to hit the town and don’t want to spend $14 for a cocktail then go to East Burnside Street for a beer and then grab a slice at Sizzle Pie. If you’re near East Burnside in the daytime hours I would urge you to go into Rock and Rose Vintage. There was a lot of good stuff in there, I’m talking leather boots and vintage suede. In general Portland’s vintage game is really strong but that kind of goes without saying.
I really want to nerd-out on how impressed I am with smaller independent labels in Portland. I had a big internet-crush on Bridge and Burn and wandering into their shop really amplified it. It’s quality merch that meets my every casual tom-boy need, fit and fabrics are on point.
The second label to call out is Poler Stuff. If you like camping or even just like being outside in general you need to go into this store, the flagship is amazing. The place bursts with colours and patterns, their product range went from sleeping bags, knapsacks and embossed dutch ovens to touques (sorry.. beanies) and socks. All of my merchandising nerve-endings were tingling. Both of these flagships are downtown and are really worth checking out.
Here’s a breakdown of where these images were taken:
